1 cup room-temperature butter
¾ cup sugar (granulated or powdered – both work)
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs, added gradually
3 cups sifted flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
Dough Notes:
Divide the dough into three parts:
Place one part in a bag and freeze for 10 minutes to make grating easier.
Spread the remaining two parts in a baking pan.
This amount fits a 25×25 cm or 28×24 cm baking tray.
Jam Layer:
Optional, but strawberry jam gives the best flavor.
Before Baking:
After spreading the dough, poke holes with a fork to prevent puffing.
Mix the butter and sugar until smooth and creamy.
Add the vanilla, then gradually add the eggs while mixing.
Add the sifted flour and baking powder, then knead until you get a soft, cohesive dough.
Divide the dough into three portions. Freeze one portion for 10 minutes and spread the other two in the baking tray.
Add a layer of strawberry jam (optional).
Grate the chilled dough over the jam layer.
Bake at 180°C using bottom heat only for 30 minutes.
For the last 5 minutes, turn on the top heat to achieve a golden color.
Allow to cool, cut, and serve. Enjoy!
