Mongolian Beef – Asian Style

For 1 kg of beef

(If using 500g, cut all amounts in half)

Beef Marinade

2 tbsp vegetable oil

2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp cornstarch

1/2 tsp baking soda

Sauce

2 cups boiling water

1/2 cup soy sauce

1 tbsp brown or white sugar (adjust to taste)

For Cooking

2–3 tbsp cornstarch to coat the beef before frying

4–5 green onions

4–5 dried red chili peppers

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp cornstarch slurry (cornstarch + water)

White sesame seeds (up to 1/2 small cup)

Serve with white rice

Preparation method

1. Marinate the Beef

Slice the beef thinly against the grain.

Mix with oil, soy sauce, cornstarch, and baking soda.

Let it rest for 20–30 minutes.

2. Prepare the Sauce

Mix boiling water with soy sauce and sugar.

Stir until fully dissolved.

3. Fry the Beef

Add 2–3 tbsp cornstarch to coat the beef lightly.

Fry in hot oil until golden and slightly crispy.

Remove and set aside.

4. Cook Everything Together

In the same pan, sauté green onions, dried chili peppers, and garlic.

Return beef to the pan.

Add the soy sauce mixture.

Thicken with the cornstarch slurry.

Add white sesame seeds and mix gently.

Serving
